Jakarta's Great Sale officially kicks off

JAKARTA: The month-long 2004 Jakarta Great Sale was officially
opened on Thursday at Plaza Semanggi in South Jakarta by
Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Jakarta
branch chairman Pungky Bambang Purwadi.

The great sale, which started on June 14 through July 14, in
commemoration of Jakarta's 477th anniversary, is being
participated in by 23 malls, 101 supermarkets, 1,514 retails, 18
hotels, three spas and 41 restaurants. The discounts on offer
range between 20 percent and 70 percent.

"I ask the Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI) and the
public to monitor the sale to ensure no participants are cheating
on discounts by increasing the price first," Pungky said, as
quoted by www.beritajakarta.com.

The great sale organizers staged a fashion festival between
June 14 and June 20 in Mal Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, and a
food festival between June 14 and June 23 in Plaza Semanggi. --
