Jakarta — The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov DKI) says food supplies ahead of Lebaran 2026 are secure. Preparations have been made to face potential demand spikes as the holiday approaches. Governor Pramono Anung of DKI Jakarta assured that staple commodities including rice, meat, and cabai merah keriting (curly red chillies) are currently adequate in the market. He noted that price fluctuations across several commodities remain within reasonable bounds.

‘For Jakarta, the needs for staples — from rice, meat, cabai merah keriting and others — we guarantee safe supply. In fact we have surplus stock; why we say so, until today there has been no significant price rise in the market; only increases in cabai merah keriting recently by around 3-5 percent,’ Pramono said in Jakarta on Friday (6 March).

Among the commodities, extra attention is given to meat availability given that demand tends to rise sharply toward the holiday. Pramono explained that the government has implemented concrete steps by increasing supply to ensure there is no price spike burdening residents.

‘Mudah-mudahan this we can maintain, with meat being the priority. Why, yesterday we imported and brought in 2,000 head of cattle. We have prepared so that meat prices in Jakarta do not rise,’ he added.

This effort forms part of the ongoing commitment by Pemprov DKI to safeguard food security and ensure residents’ needs are met during this major religious moment.
