Jakarta's Economy Grows 5.59% Amid Global Pressures, Governor Pramono Says
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has revealed that the capital’s economy grew by 5.59 percent amid ongoing global pressures. He noted that escalating geopolitical tensions have impacted Jakarta, which serves as an anchor of stability and a motor of national growth. The economy remained under control, with 5.59 percent year-on-year growth in the first quarter of 2026, contributing 16.67 percent to the national economy. Inflation was kept in check at 2.45 percent throughout 2025, and investment realisation reached IDR 270 trillion in the first quarter of 2026, Pramono stated during the 499th Jakarta Anniversary ceremony at Monas, Central Jakarta, on Monday (22/6). Pramono explained that various efficiency measures and the sharpening of priority programmes were undertaken as strategic steps to navigate the evolving situation, while continuing to prioritise programmes that deliver direct benefits to the public. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government continues to provide educational access through the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP Plus) for 707,477 students, the Jakarta Superior Student Card (KJMU) for 15,807 university students, and a diploma legalisation programme, alongside expanding job opportunities through labour-intensive schemes. In the health sector, Pramono said the administration’s ‘white brigade’ remains on standby to deliver home-based services by visiting ill residents with limited mobility. Additionally, the scope of beneficiaries receiving basic needs assistance for the elderly, persons with disabilities, and children has been expanded. Mobility access for residents is also being extended to the Greater Jakarta area (Jabodetabek), with free public transport services provided for 15 categories of residents. As part of the 499th anniversary celebrations, the Jakarta provincial government is offering free public transport and access to various tourist attractions on 22, 27, and 28 June 2026, available to all holders of Indonesian identity cards, not just Jakarta residents.
