Jakarta's Economy Grows 5.59% Amid Global Pressures, Governor Pramono Says
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has revealed that Jakarta’s economy grew by 5.59 per cent amidst the dynamics of global pressures. He noted that geopolitical escalations have impacted Jakarta in its role as an anchor of stability and a driver of national growth.
According to him, Jakarta’s economy remains controlled, with growth of 5.59 per cent year-on-year (yoy) in the first quarter of 2026. This figure has contributed 16.67 per cent to the national economy.
“Nevertheless, Jakarta’s inflation remains controlled at 2.45 per cent throughout 2025. Investment realisation reached 270 trillion [rupiah] in this first quarter of 2026,” Pramono stated during the 499th anniversary ceremony of Jakarta at Monas, Central Jakarta, on Monday (22/6).
Pramono explained that various efficiency efforts and the sharpening of priority programmes are being undertaken by his administration to face these global pressures.
“Various efficiency efforts and the sharpening of priority programmes are being carried out as strategic steps to face the evolving situation, while still prioritising programmes that provide direct benefits to the community,” he explained.
The Jakarta Provincial Government continues to provide educational access through the Jakarta Smart Card (KJP Plus) for 707,477 students, the Jakarta Superior Student Card (KJMU) for 15,825 university students, as well as diploma amnesty programmes accompanied by expanded job opportunities through labour-intensive programmes.
Beyond education, Pramono also disclosed that the Provincial Government continues to provide healthcare services, with ‘white troops’ remaining on standby to provide home-based services by visiting sick residents and those with limitations.
“Furthermore, the provision of basic needs for the elderly, people with disabilities, and children has also been expanded,” said Pramono.
Additionally, mobility access for the public continues to be expanded across the Jabodetabek area, providing free public transport services for 15 groups of people.
On Monday (22/6), Jakarta celebrated its 499th anniversary. As part of the celebrations, the Jakarta Provincial Government has made public transport services and several tourist attractions free of charge to mark the occasion.
Jakarta Governor Pramono stated that on 22, 27, and 28 June 2026, Jakarta’s public transport and tourism facilities would be free for all holders of Indonesian Identity Cards (KTP), not just those from Jakarta.
He mentioned that this benefit is available to residents holding any Indonesian KTP, not just Jakarta KTP holders.
“On the 22nd, 27th, and 28th, both public transport and the tourism facilities owned by Jakarta [will be free],” Pramono told reporters on Sunday (21/6).
