Jakarta's DKI Provincial Government Should Evaluate Rasuna Said Car Free Day With Involvement of Residents
Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta has been urged to evaluate the organisation of the Car Free Day on Jalan Rasuna Said, which will be made effective in June, by involving residents and road users.
“The study cannot be based solely on traffic technical counts,” said Dwi Rio Sambodo, a member of Commission B of the DKI Jakarta Regional House of Representatives, in Jakarta on Wednesday.
According to him, the provincial government and the Department of Transportation must conduct the CFD evaluation by involving the road-user community, business operators, affected residents, and CFD participants actively.
He said the study cannot be based solely on traffic technical counts, because the real-world experiences of people using the corridor or taking part in CFD must be the main consideration in every policy.
“Traffic engineering must be designed flexibly and adaptively, such as phased traffic diversions, optimisation of traffic lights, or a temporary one-way system at certain points,” he added.
Rio added that the scheme must be socialised earlier so that the public and business operators can adjust their activities, so CFD can run smoothly without triggering protracted conflicts with other road users.
In addition, it is necessary to form an integrated team involving Dishub, the police, and community representatives to conduct direct monitoring during CFD.
Evaluation, according to Rio, must be based on field data, starting from vehicle density, travel time, effectiveness of alternative routes, to the comfort of CFD participants and economic activity in the surrounding area.
“I also encourage a solutions-focused and restorative approach that should prioritise the technical evaluation for the Pemprov and raise collective awareness among the public through education and enforcement of rules,” he added.
Earlier, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung confirmed that Vehicle-Free Day (HBKB) or Car Free Day (CFD) in the Jalan HR Rasuna Said area, South Jakarta, would start to be implemented effectively on 1 June 2026.
The policy would be implemented after all supporting facilities in that area are completed by the Jakarta Provincial Government.
“Regarding Car Free Day, indeed specifically in both Sudirman-Thamrin and Rasuna Said, we will start effectively on 1 June,” Pramono said after inaugurating the Tian Fu Gong temple area in PIK, North Jakarta, on Sunday (17/5).
