Jakarta's Car Free Day Expands This Sunday: Locations and Times
JAKARTA – Car Free Day (CFD) will once again be held on Sunday (10/5/2026) on several major roads in Jakarta. Notably, this time the CFD area is expanding with a new point on Jalan H.R. Rasuna Said, Setiabudi, South Jakarta. The addition of this location is part of the momentum of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government towards Jakarta’s 499th anniversary, while also broadening public spaces for residents amid the capital’s dense activities. CFD will continue with the temporary closure of roads to motor vehicles from 6:00 to 10:00 AM WIB. This closure is intended to provide space for the public to enjoy the streets without traffic disturbances, while encouraging a healthy and environmentally friendly lifestyle. Residents typically utilise CFD for exercise such as walking, running, cycling, and family activities in open spaces. Numerous communities also hold social activities, health campaigns, and environmental actions. CFD itself has become a routine agenda of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, not only aimed at reducing air pollution but also creating spaces for social interaction in the capital’s public areas. With this event, Jakarta’s major roads, which are usually congested with vehicles, transform into pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly zones. [Locations listed: Jakarta Pusat, Jakarta Selatan, Jakarta Utara, Jakarta Barat, Jakarta Timur] CFD is expected to continue as an inclusive public space for Jakarta residents, while strengthening the culture of healthy living in the big city.
