Jakarta's Annual Inflation Hits 2.5% in July 2026, BPS Reveals Contributing Factors
The Statistics Indonesia (BPS) office for DKI Jakarta recorded an annual inflation rate of 2.5 per cent in July 2026, driven by the transport group which experienced inflation of 5.3 per cent, contributing 0.71 per cent to the overall rate.
“The main contributor to annual inflation in July 2026 was the transport group, which contributed 0.71 per cent to inflation, with the primary commodity being petrol,” said Head of BPS DKI Jakarta Kadarmanto in Jakarta on Monday, 3 August 2026.
He stated that other expenditure groups also experienced relatively high year-on-year inflation, namely personal care and other services. This group recorded inflation of 8.39 per cent, contributing 0.6 per cent. Inflation in this group was driven by gold jewellery.
“Earlier this year, there was an extraordinary increase in gold prices, although over the last four months there has been a decline in gold commodity prices,” Kadarmanto noted.
Meanwhile, the main commodities contributing to annual inflation in July 2026 were gold jewellery with an inflation contribution of 0.47 per cent, followed by petrol at 0.46 per cent, air transport fares at 0.16 per cent, rice at 0.12 per cent, and cooking oil at 0.1 per cent.
On the other hand, DKI Jakarta experienced a monthly deflation of 0.15 per cent in July 2026, primarily contributed by the food, beverages, and tobacco group with a share of 0.21 per cent. The dominant commodities driving deflation in this group were red chillies, shallots, and cayenne pepper, each contributing deflation of 0.07 per cent, 0.06 per cent, and 0.03 per cent, respectively.
