Jakarta's 499th Anniversary Peak Celebration Set for 28 June at Bundaran HI

The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta will hold the peak celebration of Jakarta’s 499th anniversary. A series of events has been prepared to enliven the celebration, which will be centred in the Bundaran HI area, Central Jakarta.

Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung said the series of Jakarta’s anniversary celebrations began on 21 June. The peak of Jakarta’s anniversary will be held on 28 June.

“The series of Jakarta’s anniversary events started on the 21st, yesterday the 22nd, then on the 27th there will be an event at Bundaran HI and also an event on the 28th,” said Pramono after the inauguration of members of the Jakarta Academy at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Tuesday (23/6/2026).

Although various activities for the public have been prepared, Pramono stressed that this year’s Jakarta anniversary celebration will not be held excessively. According to him, the most important thing is to bring joy to the citizens of Jakarta.

“But the essence of my message is to create public joy without being excessive. Because for me, in a geopolitical situation like this, joy is important but should not be excessive,” he said.

Pramono said the DKI Provincial Government wants to ensure that Jakarta’s anniversary celebration remains a moment of togetherness for residents without disregarding the current global conditions.

Previously, the DKI Provincial Government had held a number of event series to welcome Jakarta’s 499th anniversary on Monday (22/6). Various entertainment, cultural, and community events were prepared as part of the celebrations leading up to Jakarta’s five-century milestone next year.
