Jakarta's 499th Anniversary Launch Held on Rasuna Said Corridor, Here's the Philosophy
The selection of the H.R. Rasuna Said road corridor is considered far from arbitrary. This area represents the current face of Jakarta as a centre for diplomacy, economy, lifestyle, and continuously evolving modern public spaces.
Philosophy of the Name H.R. Rasuna Said
The name H.R. Rasuna Said is taken from the national heroine from West Sumatra known as a freedom fighter and an inspirational Indonesian female figure. The figure, nicknamed the ‘Lioness’, made significant contributions to the nation, including in the post-independence era when she served in Jakarta as a member of the DPR and the Supreme Advisory Council (DPA).
The naming of H.R. Rasuna Said Road is not merely an area identity but a symbol of firmness, progressive vision, and the dignity of Jakarta as the centre of national progress.
Jakarta’s Centre for Diplomacy and Business
The H.R. Rasuna Said road corridor is currently developing into one of Jakarta’s vital lifelines with a high concentration of diplomatic and business activities. This area is the location of various embassies and government centres, including the presence of several ministries and state institutions.
Not only that, the area is also supported by hundreds of office buildings, shopping centres, international hospitals, and vertical residences, making it one of Jakarta’s modern economic centres.
From Public Spaces to Lifestyle Centre
The H.R. Rasuna Said road corridor also has a long journey as a public space and urban lifestyle centre. In the past, this area was known as a youth and sports centre that became a hub for sports activities and youth interaction spaces in Jakarta.
Now, the Festival Plaza area and its surroundings have developed into a culinary centre, lifestyle, and creative space integrated with modern public transportation such as the LRT and TransJakarta. In the future, this area is also projected to become the epicentre of the global economy as well as a strategic centre for Jakarta’s creative industry.
In addition to being a centre for economy and diplomacy, this area is also considered to have historical and intellectual value for the development of modern Jakarta, including as part of the traces of the development of the national creative industry and film. The arrangement of modern and aesthetic pavements along the corridor further strengthens the new face of Jakarta as a pedestrian-friendly city.

The Jakarta Provincial Government considers the H.R. Rasuna Said corridor as the common thread of Jakarta’s transformation towards a global city. The integration of government areas, diplomacy, business, public transportation, and open community spaces is seen as a representation of the direction of resilient, inclusive, and sustainable urban development.
The series of the 499th Jakarta Anniversary launch will present various activities starting from Sehat Bugar Rasuna, Dengar Dekat Betawi, Spekta Jakarta, entertainment, to the Waste Separation Movement campaign. In addition, there will also be the J. Creative Market & J. BUMD Booth, TransJakarta KLG registration, and Photowall Rekam Jejak Jakarta which displays the journey of the capital’s development from time to time.
This event is also scheduled to be attended by several officials and figures, including the Governor of Jakarta, Deputy Governor of Jakarta, Coordinating Minister for Food, Minister of Environment, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing, to embassy representatives.
The launch of Jakarta City’s 499th Anniversary will be held on Saturday and Sunday, 9-10 May 2026 from 07.00 to 22.00 WIB at the H.R. Rasuna Said Road Corridor, Pedestrian Festival Plaza. The event carries the name ‘DECLARATION OF THE WASTE SEPARATION MOVEMENT AND LAUNCH OF JAKARTA CITY’S 499TH ANNIVERSARY’ with the slogan ‘Keep Jakarta Clean; Separate Waste’.
The Jakarta Provincial Government together with detikcom invites the public to join in enlivening the series of events while enjoying the new face of Jakarta’s public spaces.
