Jakarta's 499th Anniversary: Komwaja Holds Blood Donation Drive at West Jakarta Mayor's Office

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Residents’ Guard Community (Komwaja) held a blood donation event attended by 100 participants as part of the 499th anniversary celebrations of Jakarta at the Assahara Mosque courtyard, West Jakarta Mayor’s Office, on Tuesday.

Komwaja Chairman Anwar Sjani stated that the activity was the result of collaboration with various parties, including the West Jakarta City Government and several community organisations.

“Humanitarian activities must involve all elements. We want to continue campaigning and motivating the public so that more people get involved in humanitarian actions,” Anwar told reporters during the event.

In addition to the blood donation, Komwaja also declared the formation of Clean Water Volunteers to educate the public on the importance of using clean water and reducing dependence on groundwater.

According to Anwar, many Jakarta residents still use groundwater for their daily needs. Excessive use of groundwater can potentially cause various environmental and health problems.

“We encourage residents to switch to using clean water from the PAM Jaya piped network. This is also part of an environmental conservation campaign,” he said.

“The hope is that they will become pioneers who educate the community about the importance of environmental cleanliness, especially regarding the use of clean water,” Anwar added.

Meanwhile, Endang Tri Rahayu, Head of the Health and PPAPP Sub-division of the People’s Welfare Section at the West Jakarta City Secretariat, appreciated Komwaja’s initiative in helping to meet the blood stock needs in West Jakarta.

“We greatly appreciate the collaboration between Komwaja and Democare in increasing the achievement of blood bag targets. The blood demand in West Jakarta reaches around 1,200 bags per day, so activities like this are very helpful,” said Endang.

Ahead of Jakarta’s 499th anniversary, she expressed hope that the spirit of collaboration between the government and the community would continue to be strengthened to realise better public services.

“As Jakarta approaches its fifth century, we hope to continue serving the needs of the community and addressing various challenges, so that West Jakarta becomes even better and supports DKI Jakarta as a global city,” Endang concluded.
