Jakarta's 499th Anniversary: DKI Tourism Office Presents Lumina Jakarta Art and Laser Show at TMII

In celebration of the 499th anniversary of Jakarta, the DKI Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Office (Disparekraf) presented the ‘Lumina Jakarta’ show at the Keong Mas Plaza, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII). The event is a showcase of art, culture, and technology. Head of the DKI Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Office, Andhika Permata, stated that Lumina Jakarta is a flagship attraction designed to enliven the city’s anniversary celebrations. ‘Through a blend of technology, art, culture, and creativity, we want to provide a memorable experience for the public while strengthening Jakarta’s appeal as a world-class urban tourism destination,’ Andhika said in a written statement. The event, which carries an ‘Industrial Futuristic’ theme, is part of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government’s efforts to create creative entertainment spaces that represent the city’s transformation into a global hub without abandoning its cultural roots and local identity. It is also expected to boost visits from both domestic and international tourists during the anniversary festivities. The theme reflects Jakarta’s identity as a megapolitan city synonymous with modern, elegant, and world-class infrastructure development, while also advancing through integrated technology, modern transportation, and digitalisation. Lumina Jakarta invites visitors to experience a blend of a futuristic atmosphere with the warm and adaptive nuances of Betawi culture. The event featured a Music and Culture Concert Stage with performances by local musicians and artists, including Tipe-X, Pasming Based, Orkes Biang Kerok, and the Angklung Kantate Performance, combined with traditional Betawi dance and video mapping works by local creative talents. The main attraction was the ‘Pop-Chrono Laser Show’, a modern visual performance using high-resolution laser technology synchronised with dynamic musical arrangements. Visitors were also welcomed through an ‘Outdoor Immersive Tunnel’, an open-air installation combining 360-degree visual projections, LED lighting, and immersive sound design, depicting Jakarta as a modern, globally connected megastructure. Artistic and interactive light installations were placed at strategic points throughout the venue, enhancing the nighttime atmosphere and providing photo opportunities. The event also featured ‘Je Ka Te Interactive’, a 3D visual and multimedia technology ride where visitors could take photos, dance, and interact directly with digital mascots of Jakarta. The celebration culminated in a digitally controlled, large-scale fireworks show synchronised with the event’s background music, marking the peak of the 499th anniversary festivities. Lumina Jakarta serves not only as a city anniversary celebration but also as a strategy to strengthen Jakarta’s tourism and creative economy sectors. The presence of various technology-based attractions, performing arts, culture, and family entertainment is expected to extend tourist length of stay, increase economic activity around the event location, and reinforce Jakarta’s position as a creative, innovative, and world-class urban tourism destination.
