Jakarta's 2026 SPMB Registration Opens, Easier and Free of Charge
Registration for the Jakarta New Student Admission System (SPMB) for the 2026/2027 Academic Year officially opened on Monday (15/6/2026). The Jakarta Provincial Government has prepared a total capacity of 245,980 new students through public schools, the Joint SPMB scheme, and the Free Private School SPMB programme. This move is part of efforts to expand access to quality education for all children in Jakarta.
This year, the opportunity to continue education does not depend solely on public schools. The Jakarta Provincial Government is also strengthening collaboration with private schools through various partnership schemes, giving the public more choices to obtain quality education services.
Head of the Jakarta Education Agency, Nahdiana, stated that the 2026/2027 SPMB is designed to ensure the new student admission process is objective, transparent, accountable, equitable, and inclusive. Its entire implementation refers to Governor’s Decree Number 238 of 2026 concerning Technical Guidelines for New Student Admissions.
“The principle is that every child in Jakarta must have equal opportunities to receive quality education services,” she said in a statement on Monday (15/6/2026).
According to Nahdiana, expanding capacity through public schools and private schools partnering with the government is a manifestation of the Jakarta Provincial Government’s commitment to ensuring more children can access education without being hindered by limited seats in public schools. Thus, every child has an equal opportunity to achieve a better future through education.
Through the Joint SPMB, the Jakarta Provincial Government is collaborating with 298 private schools with a total capacity of 7,708 new students for junior high, senior high, and vocational school levels. Meanwhile, the Free Private School Programme involves 103 schools with a capacity of 10,109 new students covering elementary, junior high, senior high, vocational, and special needs school levels.
The capacity of public schools reaches 228,163 new students. The breakdown includes 6,310 early childhood education pupils, 95,965 elementary school pupils, 73,289 junior high school pupils, 29,337 senior high school pupils, 19,541 vocational school pupils, 891 special needs school pupils, and 2,830 community learning centre pupils.
To support the implementation of the Free Private School Programme, the Jakarta Provincial Government has allocated a budget of Rp253.6 billion. A total of 40 schools that joined earlier received funding for the period January–December 2026, while 63 new schools will receive funding from July to December 2026.
Nahdiana said the expansion of education access through private schools is carried out so that the public has more choices and does not depend solely on public schools.
“Through the Joint SPMB and Free Private Schools, we are expanding choices for the community so that children can still attend school with proper and quality services,” she said.
For some parents, this year’s implementation of the Jakarta New Student Admission System (SPMB) is considered more practical. One such parent is Amanudin (42), a resident of Srengseng Sawah, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, who said he was helped by the online registration system when enrolling his child in elementary school.
“Online is very convenient. Working parents can still manage registration during their free time without having to come to the school,” Amanudin said when contacted on Wednesday (17/6/2026).
