Jakarta's 18 August Distance Learning Flexible, Schools Given Choice

The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta has emphasised that distance learning (PJJ) on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, is flexible. State and private educational units may implement PJJ while still ensuring the learning process proceeds according to plan.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Education Office, Nahdiana, said the policy is not mandatory. Schools are given the authority to adjust the implementation of learning to the conditions and needs of their educational unit.

“The heads of state and private educational units may implement distance learning on Tuesday, 18 August 2026,” said Nahdiana when contacted by Media Indonesia on Monday (17/8).

According to her, the implementation of PJJ must still pay attention to the achievement of the learning plan. Thus, this flexibility must not reduce the learning targets that have been set by the school.

Schools are also asked to provide guidance and monitoring of the implementation of PJJ. If obstacles arise, educational units must prepare alternative learning arrangements in coordination with the head of the education sub-department and/or the head of the division overseeing the educational unit.

In addition, communication with parents or guardians and members of the educational unit must be carried out intensively. This step is necessary so that the implementation of learning remains monitored and runs effectively.

“The essence is flexibility, but learning achievement remains a concern,” she said.

With these provisions, PJJ on 18 August is not an obligation for all schools. Educational units may choose to implement distance learning while still complying with the provisions set by the DKI Jakarta Education Office.
