Jakartans flock to recreational spots
JAKARTA: Jakartans enjoyed relatively smooth traffic on most of the city's roads on the first day of 2002, with congestion only occurring in the vicinity of popular recreation spots.
After seeing in the New Year the night before, thousands of people continued the celebrations by flocking to well-known attractions such as Ancol Dreamland in North Jakarta, Indonesia miniature park TMII in East Jakarta, Ragunan zoo in South Jakarta and the National Monument (Monas) park in Central Jakarta.
Most of the facilities had accommodated revellers welcoming in the New Year on Monday night, but people still had to queue to get in.
Ancol Dreamland provided lots of entertainment including Dufan fantasy world, the Gelanggang Samudra swimming pools and Sea World, which features various forms of marine life.
TMII hosted a dangdut music show, while visitors to Ragunan Zoo were able to enjoy the fresh air as they watched the animals in their enclosures. --JP
