Jakartan wins golf Circuit meet
JAKARTA (JP): Seasoned Jakarta Golf Club player Ilyas Syak won the Jakarta Golf Circuit by three strokes yesterday after carding a four-day total of 1 over 289 (71 73 72 73) at the posh Sawangan layout yesterday.
Despite the win, it was Indonesia's rising amateur golfer Denny Supriadi who stole the limelight when he won the amateur competition by collecting even par 288 (70 73 72 73), one stroke ahead of Ilyas.
Supriadi played the pivotal role for Indonesia in retaining Asia's most coveted tournament trophy -- the Putra Cup -- competed at the Bumi Serpong Damai layout. The winning Indonesian team in the Putra Cup was made up of Sukamdi, Bahtiar and Burhan.
Unchallenged from the tee-off and spurred with constant play throughout the round, Ilyas, despite closing the round yesterday with 1 over 73, did enough to grab the top prize worth Rp 6,750,000 (US$3,150).
Maan Naasim, Sumarno and Gimin Suwiryo, the country's leading pro golfers were bunched at second each with a 292. They pocketed Rp 2,090 000 each.
The circuit is organized especially for local golfers -- professional and amateur alike. It is held annually and contested over three major golf courses in Jakarta and its surrounding areas.
From Sawangan, located near Bogor, the circuit competition will move to Ancol in North Jakarta, from Aug. 5 to 9, before being played at the Halim Two course in East Jakarta for its third and final leg.
