Jakarta Youth Groups Call for Unity and Tolerance
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Hundreds of young people who are members of youth groups across Jakarta have called for national unity, tolerance and responsibility in community life.
They held a joint prayer gathering at the Cibubur Camping Ground in East Jakarta on Wednesday afternoon (28 October), to mark the 98th anniversary of Youth Pledge Day in 2026.
“We, the young people in groups across Jakarta, are holding this prayer gathering to help create a peaceful atmosphere. We also urge the public not to be influenced by news that could lead to division,” youth representative Rico said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday.
Rico said the prayer gathering demonstrated the younger generation’s concern for national unity. He also urged the public not to be easily influenced by information that could potentially cause division.
The event was an opportunity for young people to strengthen the spirit of national unity and encourage Indonesians to preserve peace amid current developments.
Through the gathering, the young people expressed hope that Indonesia would remain safe, peaceful and harmonious, so that the goal of creating a just and prosperous society could be achieved.
Rico said the Youth Pledge anniversary should remind young people to uphold national values, strengthen bonds of brotherhood and foster love for the homeland.
He added that the 98th anniversary in 2026 should encourage Indonesian youth to play an active role as the nation’s future leaders, prioritising unity, tolerance and responsibility in community life.
The Jakarta youth groups hope the spirit of the Youth Pledge will not remain a yearly formality, but will be put into practice through concrete actions to preserve the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).
