Jakarta West Office Becomes Online Gambling Headquarters, DKI DPRD Urges Provincial Government to Audit Business Permits

A member of Commission A of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Ahmad Yani, has requested that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government conduct an audit or thorough examination of business permit data in Jakarta.

This request arose after it was revealed that an office building in Hayam Wuruk, West Jakarta, had been turned into the headquarters of an international online gambling (judol) operation, with the majority of perpetrators being foreign nationals (WNA).

“This is certainly a serious concern for us in Commission A. Especially if involvement of foreign workers in the majority is found, then a comprehensive evaluation of the oversight of business permits, population administration, and employment activities in DKI Jakarta is needed,” said Ahmad Yani when contacted by Kompas.com on Tuesday (12/5/2026).

The DKI Provincial Government is also urged to strengthen coordination with law enforcement agencies, Immigration, and the DKI Manpower, Transmigration, and Energy Agency.

In addition, oversight of the presence and activities of foreign nationals must be tightened, particularly in companies operating in the digital and information technology sectors.

Ahmad Yani warned that similar incidents must not recur in Jakarta.

He assessed that weak oversight could allow Jakarta to be exploited for illegal activities that harm the public.

In the future, oversight should be data-based across agencies, including monitoring offices or companies that appear suspicious.

“The system should be based on cross-agency data collaboration. For example, monitoring the activities of offices or companies that have unreasonable indicators, such as 24-hour closed operations, very high internet traffic usage,” said Ahmad Yani.

“Large numbers of foreign workers entering and exiting, but the business activities are not clear publicly,” he added.

Previously, the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency and the Metro Jaya Regional Police raided a building on Hayam Wuruk Street, West Jakarta, which was used as the centre of an international online gambling network.

The Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Pol Budi Hermanto, said that fully armed Brimob personnel were deployed to secure the location during the raid process.

This was done to anticipate potential security disruptions given the scale of the operation targeting a cross-country syndicate network.
