Jakarta West City Government to Transform Rubbish Dump in Rusun Angke into Green Space
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta West City Government (Pemkot Jakbar) will redevelop the rubbish accumulation site in the Rusun Angke area, Tambora, into a green space.
West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah stated that this change is being implemented through environmental improvements alongside the application of an integrated waste management concept involving the community.
“Indeed, there were some issues yesterday where the rubbish discarded by residents here became a concern for us. It turned into a rubbish pile,” Iin said after a waste sorting socialisation event at Rusun Tambora on Wednesday.
However, after conducting a field inspection, the area was found to have potential for development into a more organised and productive environment.
“But then after we looked at the site, it seems there is potential in this area for proper management. We just need to focus on forming a team together with the community for collaboration,” she said.
Iin explained that her administration will introduce several new facilities in the rusun area, ranging from waste sorting zones, urban farming locations, to interactive open spaces that can be utilised by residents, including children.
Through urban farming, Iin said, the crop yields can be used for daily needs or sold to supplement income.
In addition, waste management will be directed to support a circular economy. Organic waste will be processed into compost, while inorganic waste can be turned into creative products with economic value.
“If the mothers are enthusiastic about becoming drivers of sorting and processing waste, I think they will encourage the children or other residents,” she remarked.
However, at present, the focus is on carrying out a total clean-up of the area that previously served as a rubbish dumping point.
Subsequently, the location will be redeveloped and monitored to prevent it from being used again as an illegal dumping site.
“This is in the process of cleaning. Everything must be completely clean; we will communicate with the RW and RT administrators, as well as the lurah, to jointly maintain the environment so that there is no more dumping there,” she said.
