Jakarta (ANTARA) - The North Jakarta Water Resources Sub-Department is mapping several locations prone to tidal flooding or coastal flooding in the northern Jakarta area. “To anticipate the potential for such tidal flooding, various strategic measures have been prepared,” said the Head of the Drainage Maintenance Section of the North Jakarta Water Resources Sub-Department, Yudo Widiatmoko, in Jakarta on Thursday. The efforts include the construction and elevation of dykes as well as the dredging of canal silt. Additionally, emergency dykes are being installed at several points, and water pumps are being operated at various vulnerable locations. The agency has also mobilised 150 Blue Troops personnel, 20 floating pumps, 16 mobile pumps, and eight pumping stations complete with operators to suck up floodwater. The BMKG, he said, predicts the potential for tidal flooding around 19 April 2026, with sea levels reaching approximately 1.15 metres. “Hopefully, conditions will remain conducive and community activities will not be disrupted,” said Yudo. In Pademangan Sub-District, flooding commonly occurs on Jalan Lodan Raya, North East Ancol, and Jalan Ketel Uap. For Cilincing Sub-District, areas to watch include Marunda Pulo and Marunda Makmur, particularly around MTs Al Kasyaf. Meanwhile, in Tanjung Priok and Koja Sub-Districts, the flood-prone points are on Jalan RE Martadinata and Jalan Arteri Kali Sunter. The agency will act swiftly to anticipate the threat of tidal flooding and inundation in several coastal areas. “These steps are taken to keep community activities running normally, in line with the prediction of high sea levels potentially occurring in April,” said Yudo.
