The Jakarta Provincial Government has waived administrative penalties for late payment of motor vehicle taxes. The policy will take effect from 1 June to 31 August 2026.

The measure is part of celebrations for Jakarta’s 499th anniversary and aims to encourage residents to comply with tax payments. The administrative penalty waiver applies to motor vehicle tax (PKB) and vehicle transfer duty (BBNKB) taxpayers.

“To celebrate Jakarta’s 499th anniversary, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is delivering good news for the public, particularly motor vehicle taxpayers. This is both an appreciation and an effort to encourage compliance with tax administration,” said Lusiana Herawati, Head of the DKI Jakarta Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda), in a statement on Saturday, 30 May 2026.

The policy is formalised under DKI Jakarta Regional Revenue Agency Head Decision No. e-0018 of 2026 regarding the automatic waiver of administrative penalties for motor vehicle tax (PKB) and vehicle transfer duty (BBNKB).

Lusiana explained that the waived administrative penalties consist of interest charges accrued from late payment or settlement of due taxes. As a result, taxpayers only need to pay the principal tax amount without additional late payment interest.

“Under this policy, taxpayers can settle their vehicle tax obligations without incurring late payment interest,” she added.

Notably, the penalty waiver is automatically applied through the regional tax system. This means taxpayers do not need to submit applications or undergo additional administrative procedures.

“The waiver is applied ex officio, meaning taxpayers need not submit application letters, visit offices to request penalty removal, or complete extra administrative steps,” she explained.

The programme applies to taxpayers who settle their due taxes between 1 June and 31 August 2026. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government hopes residents will use this opportunity to clear outstanding vehicle tax dues while supporting city development.

In addition to easing the burden on residents, the policy aims to improve vehicle tax compliance, streamline regional tax administration, and enhance the effectiveness of digital-based tax services.

“This is the ideal time to settle PKB and BBNKB obligations without worrying about late payment interest. Simply pay the principal tax amount during the programme period, and the system will automatically apply the penalty waiver,” she added.
