Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Provincial Government is using technology in its museums to make them more appealing to the public, particularly younger generations.

“We use information technology to present [the collections] in a more engaging way for young people,” said Sri Kusumawati, head of the Art Museum Management Unit at the Jakarta Provincial Culture Agency, during a museum outreach and collection information event in Jakarta on Monday.

The use of immersive technology, which makes visitors feel as though they are in a real-life environment and situation, is one example of innovative museum development and management at the Wayang Museum.

The museum’s immersive space is equipped with a super-hologram area, a 360-degree immersive room and interactive games.

The museum’s displays have also been redesigned, featuring minimalist glass display cases and placing the focus on the collections, complemented by the beauty of the heritage building.

“Ultimately, what makes people want to visit a museum is not how advanced the information technology on display is. The star attraction is the museum’s original collection,” Sri said.

She said a modern museum was not merely one with valuable collections, but one capable of benefiting the public and providing meaningful experiences for everyone.

An inclusive museum, she added, was not simply one that opened its doors to everyone, but one that ensured every visitor felt welcomed and respected, and had an equal opportunity to enjoy and understand cultural heritage.

“Let us make the Wayang Museum not only a place to remember the past, but also a space that inspires us to build the future,” she said.
