Jakarta Update: Regional Regulations for Development and Rise in Public Transport Passengers
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo presented explanations regarding four Draft Regional Regulations (Raperda) during a Plenary Session of the Jakarta Provincial DPRD on Thursday. These regulations include the establishment of regional reserve funds and the institutional strengthening of Regional Owned Enterprises (BUMD) in the water, banking, and transport sectors to support Jakarta’s development needs.
As part of this initiative, the Governor outlined plans to strengthen the institutional framework and capital of Bank Jakarta. He noted that Bank DKI, which has operated since 11 April 1961, is a pioneer of regional development banks in Indonesia. Following the institutional strengthening, the bank will now operate under the name Bank Jakarta.
In terms of tourism, the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) Jakarta reported that the number of domestic tourist trips to Jakarta reached 9.14 million in August 2026, representing a 3.40 per cent increase compared to the previous month. On an annual basis, this figure rose by 12.53 per cent, according to the Head of BPS Jakarta, Kadarmanto.
The Jakarta Provincial Government has also commenced the revitalisation of the Cut Meutia Mosque in Menteng, Central Jakarta, to preserve the historic structure. Ali Maulana Hakim, Assistant for People’s Welfare of the Jakarta Provincial Secretariat, stated that because the building was originally a colonial-era structure rather than a purpose-built mosque, a specialised approach is required to avoid damaging the original architecture.
Regarding urban mobility, BPS Jakarta recorded a year-on-year increase in passengers for Jakarta’s public transport systems in August 2026. Usage of MRT Jakarta, LRT Jakarta, and Transjakarta rose by 1.80 per cent, 9.94 per cent, and 7.19 per cent respectively. However, Kadarmanto noted that on a month-on-month basis, passenger numbers for both MRT Jakarta and Transjakarta experienced a decline.
