Jakarta Unemployment Falls, Pramono Says 5.2 Million Residents Employed
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has reported a positive trend in the capital’s employment situation during the first semester of 2026. The Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) fell to 6.03 per cent, whilst the number of employed residents increased to 5.2 million people.
“This achievement shows that Jakarta’s employment conditions continue to improve. The labour force participation rate increased by 0.08 points year-on-year to 65.48 per cent, with the number of employed residents rising by 62,180 people to 5.2 million,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday (22/7).
Pramono explained that the improvement in employment indicators was reflected in the 0.15-point decline in the TPT compared to the same period the previous year. Data as of February 2026 confirmed the unemployment rate stood at 6.03 per cent.
The decline in unemployment, according to Pramono, was driven by various strategic job expansion programmes initiated by the Jakarta Provincial Government. One of the main pillars is the labour-intensive programme, which successfully created 2,843 job vacancies across several regional agencies.
Beyond labour-intensive schemes, the Jakarta administration also focused on absorbing young workers through an internship programme for senior high school graduates or equivalent. Up to the first semester of 2026, a total of 1,000 participants had joined the internship programme in collaboration with 107 partner companies.
On the human resources development side, the Jakarta administration provided regular training to 630 participants. Additionally, through the Mobile Training Unit (MTU) programme, skills training reached 2,731 participants across various areas of Jakarta to bring competency improvement access closer to the community.
Pramono assessed that the increase in the number of workers and the decline in unemployment are indicators that Jakarta’s economic growth is becoming more quality-driven. This reflects the region’s ability to create jobs that directly impact residents’ welfare.
“The increase in job opportunities under current economic conditions shows that Jakarta’s economic growth is becoming healthier and more inclusive. It is not only visible from macro indicators but also delivers work opportunities and improves community welfare,” he concluded.
