Jakarta Transportation Agency Plans Revitalisation of Kampung Rambutan Terminal to Address Flooding
The Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub DKI) plans to revitalise the Kampung Rambutan Terminal in Ciracas, East Jakarta.
This was stated by the Head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, in response to flooding caused by the overflow of the Cipinang River that inundated the Kampung Rambutan Terminal on Saturday night (21/3/2026).
“As is known, this terminal was built in the 1990s and there has been no adjustment. Along with the development of the area, which now includes the LRT Jabodebek and Transjakarta services,” said Syafrin Liputo at the Kampung Rambutan Terminal on Tuesday (24/3/2026).
Meanwhile, for short-term handling and flood prevention at the Kampung Rambutan Terminal, they will coordinate with the Water Resources Agency (SDA).
“We are carrying out cleaning, where for the water channels we hope there will be no more blockages. We are coordinating with the Water Resources Agency to make adjustments, especially regarding river overflows in this area,” he explained.
A video uploaded by the Instagram account @lbj_jakarta shows the bus platforms flooded with water, forcing passengers to wade through the puddles to board the buses.
The water level at the Kampung Rambutan Terminal ranged from 10 to 20 centimetres. As a result, several passengers had to remove their shoes or roll up their trousers to avoid getting wet.
“Several passengers appeared to have to be extra careful when crossing the flooded terminal area. This condition also hindered residents’ mobility, especially those planning to travel from early in the morning,” reads the caption from the Instagram account lbj_jakarta.
“The water started rising on Saturday (21/3/2026) at 22:00 WIB due to heavy rain and the overflow of the Cipinang River. However, by Sunday afternoon (22/3/2026), the conditions had dried up,” said Revi when contacted by Kompas.com on Monday (23/3/2026).
He also confirmed that the drainage in the Kampung Rambutan Terminal area was in good condition. However, the high intensity of rain and the overflow of the Cipinang River caused the water to spill over to the platforms.
“Intercity bus and Transjakarta services continued normally during the flooding because the water level was only 10-20 centimetres. After the water receded, the area was immediately cleaned with spraying using a vehicle from the Sub-District Fire Department,” said Revi.
