The DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) has deployed 120 officers to anticipate traffic congestion during a public protest at the DPR/MPR building and its surroundings on Thursday (27/8).

“Sixty officers are deployed on the first shift from 07.00 to 13.00 WIB and 60 officers on the second shift from 13.00 to 19.00 WIB,” said Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency Budi Awaluddin in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Budi urged the public to follow officers’ instructions, exercise caution while driving, and adjust travel times and routes according to current traffic conditions.

Previously, Polda Metro Jaya estimated that the number of participants taking part in the public protest on Thursday (27/8), particularly those concentrated around the DPR/MPR building, would reach 500 people.

Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, said the crowd estimate was based on notification letters received by the police from several community groups.

“If we talk about estimates, so far it is still around 500 demonstrators. We received notifications from the Pati United Community Alliance and several other alliances,” he said.

The concentration of protesters is expected to be centred around the DPR/MPR building.

Budi also anticipated the possibility of student groups joining the ranks of the demonstrators.

“Regarding the situation on the ground, Polda Metro Jaya confirms that so far no protesters have been detained or found carrying dangerous weapons,” he said.
