Jakarta Transport Agency Regulates Ojol Pick-Up Points, Begins Preparing Shelters
The Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub DKI) will regulate online motorcycle taxi (ojol) pick-up and drop-off activities on several road sections that often trigger congestion. The arrangement is being carried out by preparing shelters for drivers in office building areas and strategic points so that passenger boarding and alighting activities no longer use the road body.
Head of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Transportation Agency, Budi Awaluddin, stated that parking management and improving driving safety require the involvement of various parties. According to him, the solutions prepared must continue to accommodate the needs of the community while maintaining the function of the road.
‘Parking management needs to be accompanied by the provision of better alternatives for drivers so that order on the roads can be realised without neglecting their needs in serving the community,’ Budi said when confirmed on Friday (26/6).
Dishub DKI, together with a number of partners, will also hold a Safety Driving Seminar attended by around 200 drivers from various taxi and online motorcycle taxi operators. The activity is not only directed at strengthening driving safety education but also discusses parking management initiatives in Jakarta.
A number of measures discussed include the provision of shelters for online motorcycle taxi drivers in office building areas. In addition, Dishub DKI is also reviewing parking relaxations with online transport operators and building managers as an option to support driver and passenger boarding and alighting activities without using the road body.
At locations managed by Dishub DKI, the provision of shelters is also continuously encouraged. One facility already available is at the Pulo Gebang Integrated Terminal, serving as a shelter for drivers.
Going forward, collaboration with various parties is expected to be realised through the provision of shelters in building areas across Jakarta. Budi mentioned that further discussions will involve building managers, online motorcycle taxi operators, and passenger transport operators.
‘In the near future, discussions will be held with building managers as well as online motorcycle taxi operators and passenger transport operators. In addition, there will also be an inauguration of an online motorcycle taxi shelter, which is the result of a joint initiative with Grab at Wisma Kosgoro in the near future,’ Budi revealed.
Budi emphasised that collaboration with the driver community is not a temporary agenda. The measure is described as part of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government’s ongoing commitment to realising more orderly, safe, and comfortable traffic.
‘With the spirit of collaboration, we hope that the various solutions prepared can provide benefits for all parties while restoring the function of roads as mobility spaces for the public interest,’ Budi concluded.
