Jakarta Traffic Engineering During 81st Indonesian Independence Day, 18 Roads Affected
Indonesia is today commemorating its 81st Independence Day. The government has prepared traffic engineering to support the series of activities for the 81st anniversary celebrations so that the moment runs smoothly.
The Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) hopes that the traffic arrangements implemented will allow community activities to proceed safely and maintain mobility for road users in the National Monument (Monas) to Dukuh Atas area of Jakarta.
Head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency Budi Awaluddin said that his office has implemented traffic engineering on 18 road sections situationally. A total of 500 Dishub personnel have been deployed and the traffic engineering is applied situationally, adjusting to the stages of each activity.
“We have prepared situational traffic arrangements so that the entire series of the 81st Indonesian Independence Day celebrations can take place safely and in an orderly manner,” he said, as quoted by detik on Monday (17/8/2026).
He urged the public to adjust their journeys and follow the directions of officers in the field. “If heading to the event location, we strongly recommend using public transport,” he said.
The following are the 18 road sections that will be affected:
Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, from the Jalan Karet Pasar Baru Timur III intersection to the HI Roundabout.
Jalan MH Thamrin, from the HI Roundabout to the Horse Statue Roundabout.
Jalan Kuningan BNI 46.
Jalan Kota Bumi and Jalan Baturaja.
Jalan Teluk Betung.
Jalan Kebon Kacang.
Jalan Sunda.
Jalan Imam Bonjol.
Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat.
Jalan Medan Merdeka Utara.
Jalan Veteran I.
Jalan Veteran II.
Jalan Veteran III.
Jalan Majapahit east side, northbound to southbound.
Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan.

In addition, in connection with the Heritage Flag Delivery Procession (Kirab Pengantaran Bendera Pusaka) which will be held from 07.30 to 09.30 WIB, followed by the Proclamation seconds ceremony from 09.30 to 11.30 WIB, the public is asked to pay attention to traffic engineering around the Merdeka Palace area.
The engineering also continues into the afternoon, when the Red and White Flag Lowering Ceremony takes place from 16.30 to 17.45 WIB, followed by the Heritage Flag Return Procession from 17.45 to 18.30 WIB.
In connection with these activities, situational traffic diversions are implemented from 07.30 to 11.30 WIB and from 16.30 to 18.30 WIB.
The affected roads include Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Jalan Medan Merdeka Utara, Jalan Veteran I, Jalan Veteran II, Jalan Veteran III, and Jalan Majapahit east side northbound to southbound.
Road users from Harmoni heading to Tugu Tani can use Jalan Ir. H. Juanda–Jalan Pos–Jalan Gedung Kesenian–Jalan Lapangan Banteng Utara–Jalan Lapangan Banteng Barat–Jalan Taman Pejambon–Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur–Jalan M.I. Ridwan Rais. Meanwhile, travel from Harmoni to Karet can go via Jalan Ir. H. Juanda–Jalan Suryopranoto–Jalan Balikpapan–Jalan Cideng Timur–Jalan K.H. Mas Mansyur.
From Tugu Tani to Harmoni, one can go via Jalan M.I. Ridwan Rais–Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur–Jalan Perwira–Jalan Lapangan Banteng Barat–Jalan Katedral–Jalan Ir. H. Juanda. From Tugu Tani to Tanah Abang, one can go via Jalan M.I. Ridwan Rais–Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan–Jalan Budi Kemuliaan.
Meanwhile, from the HI Roundabout to Harmoni, one can go via Jalan M.H. Thamrin–Jalan Budi Kemuliaan–Jalan Abdul Muis–Jalan Majapahit. From Karet to Harmoni, one can go via Jalan K.H. Mas Mansyur–Jalan Cideng Barat–Jalan Balikpapan–Jalan Suryopranoto.
From Tanah Abang to Tugu Tani, one can go via Jalan Jati Baru Raya–Jalan Kebon Sirih or Jalan Abdul Muis–Jalan Budi Kemuliaan–Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan–Jalan M.I. Ridwan Rais.
The People’s Party (Pesta Rakyat) event takes place from 08.00 to 23.00 WIB. During the event, situational traffic diversions are implemented on a number of roads around the Monas area.

Juanda–Jalan Pos–Jalan Gedung Kesenian–Jalan Lapangan Banteng Utara–Jalan Lapangan Banteng Barat–Jalan Taman Pejambon–Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur–Jalan M.I. Ridwan Rais. From Tugu Tani to Harmoni, one can go via Jalan M.I. Ridwan Rais–Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur–Jalan Perwira–Jalan Lapangan Banteng Barat–Jalan Katedral–Jalan Ir. H. Juanda. From the HI Roundabout to Harmoni, one can go via Jalan M.H. Thamrin–Jalan Kebon Sirih–Jalan H. Fachrudin–Jalan Jati Baru Raya–Jalan Abdul Muis–Jalan Majapahit.
For travel from Jalan Agus Salim to Senen, road users can go via Jalan Agus Salim–Jalan Kebon Sirih–Jalan Arief Rachman Hakim. From Karet to Harmoni, one can go via Jalan K.H. Mas Mansyur–Jalan Cideng Barat–Jalan Balikpapan–Jalan Suryopranoto.
Meanwhile, from Tanah Abang to Tugu Tani, one can go via Jalan Jati Baru Raya–Jalan Kebon Sirih, and to Harmoni via Jalan Jati Baru Raya–Jalan Abdul Muis–Jalan Majapahit.
On the evening of the 81st Indonesian Independence Day celebration, which takes place from 19.00 to 23.00 WIB, the event is enlivened by a Decorated Vehicle Carnival. The carnival starts from Jalan Silang Merdeka Daya Barat–Monas, then passes along the east side of Jalan M.H. Thamrin, the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout, the east side of Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, and ends at Jalan Galunggung–Taman Dukuh Atas Skatepark.
During the carnival, traffic management is carried out situationally in the Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Jalan M.H. Thamrin, Monas areas, as well as a number of roads around Tanah Abang, Menteng, Kebon Kacang, and Dukuh Atas.
A number of alternative routes have been prepared, including Harmoni to Tugu Tani via Jalan Ir. H. Juanda–Jalan Pos–Jalan Gedung Kesenian–Jalan Lapangan Banteng Utara–Jalan Taman Pejambon–Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur–Jalan M.I. Ridwan Rais. From Tugu Tani to Harmoni, one can go via Jalan M.I. Ridwan Rais–Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur–Jalan Perwira–Jalan Katedral–Jalan Ir. H. Juanda. Meanwhile, from Menteng to Tanah Abang, one can go via Jalan Imam Bonjol–Jalan H. Agus Salim–Jalan K.H. Wahid Hasyim–Jalan K.H. Mas Mansyur.
For travel from Kuningan or Senayan to Harmoni, one can go via Jalan K.H. Mas Mansyur–Jalan Cideng Barat–Jalan Balikpapan–Jalan Suryopranoto. From Tanah Abang to Tugu Tani, one can go via Jalan Jati Baru Raya–Jalan Kebon Sirih, while to Harmoni one can go via Jalan Jati Baru Raya–Jalan Abdul Muis–Jalan Majapahit.
