Jakarta to Turn Off Lights for One Hour Tonight from 8:30-9:30 PM WIB
In order to celebrate Environment Day, the Jakarta Provincial Government will turn off lights for one hour today, Saturday (13/6/2026). The blackout will take place from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM Western Indonesia Time (WIB).
According to an announcement on the official Instagram account of the Jakarta Provincial Government, the blackout will be implemented across five regions. All government office buildings will experience the blackout, except for hospitals, community health centres (Puskesmas), and clinics. Additionally, several privately owned buildings, commercial buildings, shopping centres, restaurants, hotels, and apartments will also turn off their lights simultaneously.
Several iconic landmarks of Jakarta, such as the City Hall (Balaikota) building, the National Monument (Monas), the Arjuna Wiwaha Statue, the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout, the Pemuda Statue, and the Pahlawan and Jenderal Sudirman statues, will be in complete darkness for one hour. Main roads and arterial roads across Jakarta will also experience the blackout.
In Central Jakarta, the affected areas include Jalan Sudirman (from Dukuh Atas to the Sampoerna Strategic building), Jalan MH Thamrin, the area around Jalan Medan Merdeka (in front of the Presidential Palace), Jalan Gerbang Pemuda to Jalan Asia Afrika, the Balaikota office courtyard, and the Central Jakarta Mayor’s office. In North Jakarta, the blackout covers Jalan Yos Sudarso, the North Jakarta Mayor’s office complex, and Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan. East Jakarta will see blackouts on Jalan Dr Sumarno, Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan, and the East Jakarta Mayor’s office complex. West Jakarta’s affected areas include Jalan Daan Mogot, Jalan Kembangan Raya (in front of the West Jakarta Mayor’s office), and the West Jakarta Mayor’s office complex. In South Jakarta, the blackout will affect Jalan Prapanca Raya, Jalan Gerbang Pemuda to Jalan Asia Afrika, Jalan Sudirman (from the Sampoerna Strategic building to the Pemuda Statue), the South Jakarta Mayor’s office building, and Jalan Rasuna Said.
According to a post by the Jakarta Provincial Government, a similar simultaneous blackout conducted on 25 April 2026 successfully saved a total of 96.91 MWh of electricity. This resulted in cost efficiency of Rp140,226,312 and contributed to a reduction of 77.53 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
