Jakarta to Turn Off Lights for One Hour on Environment Day, 13 June: Here Are the Locations

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will carry out a one-hour blackout on Saturday, 13 June 2026. This activity is held in commemoration of World Environment Day and will take place along a number of arterial roads, government buildings, and landmarks in the capital. The 60-minute blackout forms part of routine energy-saving efforts undertaken by the province. Based on information from an official social media post, the blackout is scheduled for Saturday, 13 June 2026, from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM Western Indonesia Time. The action is intended to support energy conservation and curb carbon emissions, and will be conducted simultaneously across Jakarta’s five administrative areas. The administration stated that switching off the lights for sixty minutes is a straightforward measure with a positive environmental impact. The blackout will apply to all buildings and offices owned by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, with the exception of healthcare facilities such as hospitals, community health centres, and clinics. A number of private buildings, commercial high-rises, shopping centres, restaurants, hotels, and apartments will also participate. In Central Jakarta, the affected roads include Jalan Sudirman from Dukuh Atas to the Sampoerna Strategic building, Jalan MH Thamrin, the Medan Merdeka area including the section directly in front of the Presidential Palace, Jalan Gerbang Pemuda to Jalan Asia Afrika, the courtyard of Jakarta City Hall, and the Central Jakarta Mayor’s Office. In North Jakarta, the locations are Jalan Yos Sudarso, the North Jakarta Mayor’s Office complex, and Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan. In East Jakarta, the blackout covers Jalan Dr. Sumarno, Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan, and the East Jakarta Mayor’s Office complex. In West Jakarta, Jalan Daan Mogot, Jalan Kembangan Raya in front of the West Jakarta Mayor’s Office, and the office complex itself will go dark. In South Jakarta, lights will be switched off on Jalan Prapanca Raya, Jalan Gerbang Pemuda to Jalan Asia Afrika, Jalan Sudirman from the Sampoerna Strategic building to Patung Pemuda, the South Jakarta Mayor’s Office building, and Jalan HR Rasuna Said. City landmarks participating include the DKI Jakarta City Hall building, the National Monument (Monas), the Arjuna Wiwaha Statue, the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout, Patung Pemuda, Patung Pahlawan, and the General Sudirman Statue. The Jakarta provincial government is also urging residents to take part by switching off lights and unused electrical appliances during the designated hour. According to official data, the blackout held on 25 April 2025 resulted in electricity savings of 96.91 MWh, a cost efficiency of Rp140,226,312, and an emissions reduction of 77.53 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent.
