Jakarta to Switch Off Lights Simultaneously Three Times: Times and Locations

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will carry out a simultaneous and participatory light switch-off as part of an energy-saving action and carbon emission reduction, as well as the implementation of Governor’s Instruction (Ingub) No. 14 of 2021 on Light Switch-Off Implementation.

The light switch-off activity will take place from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm WIB and will be held three times: on Saturday, 25 April 2026 for Earth Day; 13 June 2026 for Environment Day; and 26 September 2026 for World Ozone Day.

The Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency (DLH), Dudi Gardesi Sadikin, explained that the mechanism for implementing the light switch-off activity is carried out participatorily by the managers and/or those responsible for buildings, facilities, and lighting according to their respective authorities.

“The light switch-off activity aims to encourage energy savings, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and increase public awareness and participation in efforts to prevent and control environmental pollution,” said Dudi in a statement on Friday (24/4/2026).

The following are the light switch-off locations in accordance with Ingub of DKI Jakarta Province No. 14 of 2021:

  1. All buildings/offices of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (except hospitals, puskesmas, clinics, and others).

  2. Protocol Roads and Arterial Roads in the 5 (five) Administrative City Areas as follows:

  • Central Jakarta: Jl. Sudirman (Dukuh Atas to Sampoerna Strategic Building), and Jalan MH. Thamrin; Around Jalan Medan Merdeka (North Medan Merdeka Subdistrict in front of the Presidential Palace), Jalan Gerbang Pemuda-Jalan Asia Afrika, Balai Kota Office Grounds, Central Jakarta Mayor’s Office.

  • North Jakarta: Jl. Yos Sudarso, North Jakarta Mayor’s Office Complex, and Perintis Kemerdekaan.

  • East Jakarta: Jl. Dr. Sumarno, Jl. Perintis Kemerdekaan, and East Jakarta Mayor’s Office Complex.

  • West Jakarta: Jl. Daan Mogot and Jl. Kembangan Raya (in front of West Jakarta Mayor’s Office), and West Jakarta Mayor’s Office Complex.

  • South Jakarta: Jl. Prapanca Raya, Jl. Gerbang Pemuda-Jl. Asia Afrika, Jl. Sudirman (Sampoerna Strategic Building-Youth Statue), and Jl. Rasuna Said.

  1. Jakarta City Symbols, namely Balai Kota Building; National Monument and its fountain; Arjuna Wiwaha Statue and its fountain; Hotel Indonesia Roundabout and its fountain; Youth Statue and its fountain; Heroes’ Statue; and General Sudirman Statue.

  2. Several private buildings, commercial buildings, shopping centres, restaurants, hotels, and apartments will also participate in the light switch-off.
