The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is preparing a major overhaul of the Transjabodetabek bus fare scheme. Currently, the public enjoys a flat rate of Rp3,500 for various routes, but in future, fares will be adjusted according to travel distance and the characteristics of the service used.

This policy is part of the government’s effort to create a more sustainable public transport system without neglecting affordability for the public. The fare adjustment plan has emerged alongside the expansion of Transjabodetabek services, which now reach Jakarta’s buffer zones and include routes with considerably long distances. One route under the spotlight is the SH2 Blok M-Soekarno-Hatta Airport service, which began operations on 12 March 2026.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stressed that the Rp3,500 fare is no longer relevant for certain long-distance routes with higher operational costs. ‘I also said at the time, it is impossible for Blok M-Soekarno-Hatta to be Rp3,500, because taking the Damri bus or other services already averages above Rp100,000,’ Pramono Anung said in South Jakarta.

According to Pramono, the provincial government is currently finalising the new fare amounts to be applied to a number of Transjabodetabek services. An official decision is set to be announced shortly. ‘Therefore, there will be adjustments; the figure will be decided in the near future,’ Pramono stated.

Although fares will be revised, the provincial government has assured that the policy will continue to consider the public interest. The government aims to maintain a balance between the need for transport subsidies and the continuously improving service quality.

Previously, the Jakarta administration had studied a fare for the Blok M-Soekarno-Hatta Airport route in the range of Rp10,000 to Rp15,000. However, Pramono chose to wait for a three-month operational evaluation before setting the final figure. Not only the route to Soekarno-Hatta Airport, but several other Transjabodetabek services also have the potential to undergo fare adjustments in the near future. The government considers that a distance-based fare scheme reflects actual service costs more accurately than the current flat tariff.

‘We will soon decide on the Transjabodetabek fare for Blok M-Soekarno Hatta. In the coming months, we will decide on several routes, not just Blok M to Soekarno-Hatta, but also other Transjabodetabek services that need adjustment,’ Pramono explained.
