Jakarta to Print 1,000 Special Qurans for 500th Anniversary
The Jakarta provincial government will print 1,000 special edition Qurans to commemorate the city’s 500th anniversary in 2027. Governor Pramono Anung announced the plan at City Hall on Friday, explaining that the Qurans are part of a series of khataman and tadarusan programmes leading up to the anniversary. Of the total, 500 copies will be allocated for a khataman programme and the remaining 500 for a tadarusan programme. Participants in the khataman will be given a space to provide their signatures as part of the documentation for the 500th anniversary commemoration. The governor noted that the number 500 was chosen to symbolise the city’s age, though he acknowledged the possibility that the number of participants could exceed the target. Pramono confirmed that all activities would be financed by the Jakarta provincial government.
