Jakarta to Offer Free Public Transport and Entry to Ancol, Monas for Five Days During 500th Anniversary
The Jakarta Provincial Government plans to make public transport and a number of tourist attractions free of charge for five consecutive days as part of the celebration of the 5th centenary of the City of Jakarta. The initiative is intended to allow people from all over Indonesia to enjoy the festivities.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the policy is being prepared to welcome Jakarta’s 500th anniversary next year. He mentioned that all modes of public transport managed by the Jakarta Provincial Government will be free for five days.
“For next year, I have already been thinking about what I will give for Jakarta’s five centuries. It is simple: for five consecutive days on Jakarta’s anniversary, we will make everything related to transportation in Jakarta free,” Pramono said during the Investor Daily Round Table event in the SCBD area, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (30/6/2026).
Beyond transport, Pramono said a number of tourist destinations owned by the Jakarta Provincial Government will also be opened free of charge. These include Ragunan Zoo, the National Monument (Monas), museums, and sports halls (GOR).
“Including Ragunan, Monas, Ancol, the existing museums, and the sports halls, we will make them free. And that is what will make more people come to Jakarta,” he added.
Pramono explained that the policy is a continuation of the free transport programme during Jakarta’s recent anniversary, which was deemed successful in boosting tourist numbers and economic turnover. He noted that during this year’s anniversary, a number of tourist destinations recorded record visitor numbers.
“Ragunan broke its record, reaching 135,500 visitors in a day. Ancol also broke its record. What makes me happy is that museums, which are usually never visited, each received up to 30,000 visitors,” he explained.
Pramono also confirmed that the free programme will not be limited to Jakarta ID card holders. He wants people from all over Indonesia to enjoy the celebration of Jakarta’s 500th anniversary.
“Therefore, I changed it from Jakarta ID card holders to all Indonesian ID card holders. For those five consecutive days, the dates of which we will determine, we will waive the fees. This way, if they come to Jakarta during the school holidays, this can serve as a means of entertainment, especially since the transport is free,” he concluded.
