Jakarta to Name and Shame Irresponsible Waste Managers
The Jakarta Provincial Government is prepared to announce the names of individuals and companies found to be irresponsibly managing waste as part of a firm enforcement strategy.
“The Jakarta Provincial Government will take action and announce those individuals or companies,” stated Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung at Blok M Hub Jakarta on Friday, responding to viral social media footage showing waste accumulation in the Penjaringan Urban Forest Park.
This decisive action will be taken if the government identifies waste accumulation caused by irresponsible parties rather than the Jakarta Environmental Agency. Consequently, the Governor reminded business operators, such as cafe and restaurant managers, to ensure proper waste management.
“Because they typically collect waste from hotels, restaurants, and cafes located in that area. Therefore, they should not merely seek profit and revenue without taking responsibility for their waste,” he added.
The Jakarta Provincial Government has since deployed 15 waste collection trucks to clear the waste in Penjaringan to restore cleanliness and comfort to the surrounding environment. Previously, residents of Penjaringan, North Jakarta, had complained about waste piles on Jalan Kepanduan 2, adjacent to the Penjaringan Urban Forest Park, which had remained unaddressed despite prior promises of removal.
