Jakarta is preparing to host a major international museum conference through the International Council of Museums, Committee for Education and Cultural Action (ICOM-CECA) Annual Conference 2026, scheduled for 9–14 November. Head of the DKI Jakarta Culture Agency, Mochamad Miftahulloh Tamary, stated that this marks a historic moment as it is the first time Indonesia has been trusted to organise the ICOM-CECA Annual Conference. “This trust is proof that Jakarta has the capacity to serve as a cultural centre as well as a hub for international cultural dialogue,” he said during an online press conference on Thursday. Miftahulloh explained that hosting the world museum conference in Jakarta is the result of intensive outreach, communication, and strategic discussions built consistently over the past three years by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government together with Musee ID and ICOM-CECA. The annual conference serves as a platform for museum professionals from various countries to exchange knowledge and experiences, as well as to strengthen the role of museums in public life. A series of activities has been prepared, including plenary sessions, panel discussions at iconic Jakarta museums such as the Bank Indonesia Museum and the Jakarta History Museum, and a cultural visit to Onrust Archaeology Island as part of an experience to explore Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage. Miftahulloh projects the event will bring together more than 200 museum professionals from over 50 countries.
