Jakarta to Host 2026 ICOM-CECA World Museum Conference

Jakarta is poised to make new history in the international museum world. The Indonesian capital has been officially selected to host the International Council of Museums, Committee for Education and Cultural Action (ICOM-CECA) Annual Conference 2026, scheduled for 9-14 November 2026. Head of the DKI Jakarta Culture Agency, Mochamad Miftahulloh Tamary, stated that the appointment is a first for Indonesia in hosting the prestigious annual conference. “This trust is proof that Jakarta has the capacity as a cultural centre as well as a hub for international cultural dialogue,” Miftahulloh said during an online press conference on Thursday (9/7). Jakarta’s success in becoming the host did not happen overnight. Miftahulloh explained that this achievement is the fruit of an intensive approach and strategic discussions built consistently over approximately the last three years. This effort involved close collaboration between the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, Musee ID, and ICOM-CECA. The annual conference is designed as a forum for museum professionals from around the world to exchange knowledge, share experiences, and strengthen the role of museums in modern society. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has prepared a series of activities to welcome the delegates. Miftahulloh projects that this global-scale event will be attended by more than 200 museum professionals from over 50 countries. For context, ICOM-CECA is an international committee under the International Council of Museums, established in 1968. The committee focuses primarily on the development of museum education, cultural participation, and efforts towards social transformation through museum institutions.
