Jakarta to Host 2026 ICOM-CECA World Museum Conference

DKI Jakarta is set to make history in the international museum world. The Indonesian capital has been officially chosen to host the International Council of Museums, Committee for Education and Cultural Action (ICOM-CECA) Annual Conference 2026, scheduled to take place from 9 to 14 November 2026.

The Head of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Culture Office, Mochamad Miftahulloh Tamary, said the appointment marks a first-time achievement for Indonesia in hosting the prestigious annual conference.

“This trust is proof that Jakarta has the capacity to serve as a centre of culture as well as a hub for international cultural dialogue,” Miftahulloh said during an online press conference on Thursday (9/7).

Jakarta’s success in winning the hosting rights did not happen overnight. Miftahulloh explained that the achievement was the fruit of an intensive approach and strategic discussions built consistently over roughly the past three years. The effort involved close collaboration between the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, Musee ID, and ICOM-CECA.

The annual conference is designed as a platform for museum professionals from around the world to exchange knowledge, share experiences, and strengthen the role of museums amid modern society.

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has prepared a series of activities to welcome the delegates.

Miftahulloh projected that the global-scale event will be attended by more than 200 museum professionals from over 50 countries.

For information, ICOM-CECA is an international committee under the International Council of Museums that has been established since 1968. The committee’s main focus is on museum education development, cultural participation, and efforts to drive social transformation through museum institutions. (Ant/H-3)

The concept is currently being developed in Indonesia, with the National Museum serving as one of the reference points for modern museum management.
