Jakarta to Hold 499th Anniversary Peak Celebration at Bundaran HI Today
Jakarta will hold the peak celebration of its 499th anniversary on Saturday, 27 June 2026. The main event will take place at the Hotel Indonesia (HI) Roundabout in Central Jakarta starting at 3:30 p.m. WIB. The Chair of the Jakarta 499th Anniversary Committee, who is also the Assistant for Economy and Finance of the Jakarta Provincial Secretary, Suharini Eliawati, stated that this year’s event features a variety of entertainment and cultural activities. ‘The age of 499 is a momentum for Jakarta towards five centuries of the city’s journey. Therefore, we are filling this year’s anniversary with various gifts for the community,’ Suharini said in a written statement on Friday, 26 June 2026. The peak night ‘Towards 5 Centuries of Jakarta’ will take place this Saturday from 3:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. WIB. The event is open to the public and free of charge. To support the smooth running of the event, the section of Jalan M.H. Thamrin from the Sarinah area to Dukuh Atas will be temporarily closed on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. WIB. The 499th anniversary celebration will be enlivened by Padi Reborn, Mahalini, Adrian Khalif, Cici Paramida, Mollucan Soul, Sania, Skarbu, and Pasming Based. The event will also feature a lighting show, video mapping, flying LED displays, eco-friendly art installations, and the launch of the logo towards five centuries of Jakarta. The peak of the Jakarta anniversary celebration will last for two days. On Saturday, there will be a music concert and a multimedia performance titled ‘Towards 5 Centuries of Jakarta’. Meanwhile, on Sunday, 28 June 2026, the public can enjoy the ‘Jakarta Full of Colour’ activity, which showcases a variety of art, cultural, sports, and entertainment attractions in the Bundaran HI area. On Sunday, various attractions will enliven the activities, including PoundFit, a giant balloon parade from Sarinah to the HI Roundabout, a marching band, a mass Nusantara dance involving around 500 dancers, a collaboration between Gambang Kromong and ballet, urban theatre, and a waste sorting action. As part of the series of events for Jakarta’s 499th anniversary, fares for the Jakarta MRT, Jakarta LRT, and Transjakarta are set at Rp 1 on 27–28 June 2026. This programme applies to all users without being limited to Jakarta ID card holders. In addition, the public can also enjoy free access to Ancol Dreamland, the National Monument, Ragunan Wildlife Park, museums owned by the Jakarta Provincial Government, as well as swimming pools and sports facilities managed by the Youth and Sports Agency during this period.
