Perumda Dharma Jaya plans to build a new cattle pen in the Ciangir area of Tangerang Regency, Banten, to increase the capacity for holding cattle in order to meet the meat needs of DKI Jakarta. “Initially we will build the pen first and a feed-processing warehouse. In the future, it will become an integrated area,” said Dharma Jaya’s President Director Raditya Endra Budiman in Jakarta on Thursday. He said that in 2026, the regional company owned by the Jakarta Provincial Government would import 7,500 cattle, of which 3,119 have already arrived. He said that with the current pen capacity, procurement of cattle cannot be maximised because Dharma Jaya only has land of 12 hectares in Serang that can accommodate up to 5,000 cattle. However, the land allocation has changed so it can no longer be used as a pen. Therefore, the regional company will build the pen in Ciangir, Tangerang Regency, Banten. The area covers about 100 hectares in total, with 20 hectares already used by a correctional facility. Of the remaining around 70 hectares, Dharma Jaya plans to utilise about 40 hectares for the development of a livestock farming area. “With a larger pen, it is hoped to increase the cattle stock and thereby contribute to food security, particularly meat,” he said. With the new facility, Dharma Jaya hopes inbound cattle capacity could rise to 1,000 head in a single procurement period, enabling it to meet Jakarta’s meat needs. “Yesterday we imported 590 cattle; this was due to pen limitations. We hope that with the new pen we can accommodate more cattle,” he said.
