Jakarta Suspends Odd-Even Traffic Policy for Islamic New Year Holiday

The odd-even traffic policy in Jakarta has been suspended on Tuesday (16/6/2026) in conjunction with the Islamic New Year 1 Muharram 1448 Hijriah, which has been designated as a national holiday. Consequently, all vehicles may travel without restrictions based on licence plate numbers.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Budi Awaluddin, stated that the suspension of the odd-even policy was due to the national holiday. "In connection with the Islamic New Year 1 Muharram 1448 Hijriah holiday on 16 June 2026, the implementation of the odd-even system on various road sections in Jakarta is suspended," Budi said in a statement on Monday (15/6/2026).

The policy refers to the Joint Decree of the Minister of Religious Affairs, the Minister of Manpower, and the Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform concerning National Holidays and Collective Leave for 2026. Furthermore, the provision for suspending the odd-even policy on national holidays is also regulated in DKI Jakarta Governor Regulation Number 88 of 2019. Article 3 paragraph (3) stipulates that traffic restrictions using the odd-even system do not apply on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays set by the government.

Although vehicle restrictions are not enforced, the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency still urges the public to obey traffic regulations and prioritise safety while driving. "Continue to maintain safety and obey traffic signs," Budi said.
