Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Jakarta Provincial Government is committed to strengthening a comprehensive and victim-centred system for the prevention and handling of sexual violence in various settings, including government and the private sector.

The Head of the Department of Empowerment, Child Protection, and Population Control (PPAPP) of the Jakarta Province, Dwi Oktavia, stated that this is being done because many female workers, both in the formal and informal sectors, still face the risk of physical, verbal, psychological, and sexual violence, as well as exploitation.

“In fact, the work environment, whether in government, the private sector, or educational institutions, should be a professional, productive, and discrimination-free space, free from violence,” she said during a seminar on “No Excuse for Abuse: Implementation of the Policy on Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH) in Jakarta, Wednesday.

In January 2026, a total of 85 cases of violence against adult women in Jakarta were recorded and handled by the Centre for Women and Child Protection (PPPA). This figure is higher than the 76 cases recorded in December 2025.

Dwi said that practices of exploitation and sexual harassment, especially against women, can occur in various forms and are often influenced by unequal power relations.

Therefore, the PPAPP Department of Jakarta continues to strive to improve the capacity and awareness of all parties, including stakeholders, regarding the concepts, principles, and mechanisms for preventing and handling exploitation and sexual harassment.

One of the efforts being made is to hold seminars involving various parties, including stakeholders and the public.

“This seminar is also a forum for shared learning to strengthen the system of cross-sectoral synergy in government, the business world, universities, and the wider community,” she said.

Dwi added that in the midst of Jakarta’s transformation into an inclusive, competitive, and sustainable global city, the quality of human resources is becoming increasingly important because the transformation is not only about infrastructure development, economic growth, or technological advancement.

“This also includes how all those involved in the development of Jakarta receive protection and guarantees against various risks so that they feel safe,” she said.
