Jakarta Slowly Comes Back to Life After Eid: Roads Busy, Ride-Hailing Orders Increase
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Entering H+4 after the celebration of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah on Wednesday (25/3/2026), the hustle and bustle of life in Jakarta is starting to feel present again. Residents returning from their hometowns are beginning to fill the streets, indicating that Jakarta residents and those in surrounding areas are gradually resuming their activities. To ensure the conditions in Jakarta as it starts to become lively again, Kompas.com conducted an inspection by traversing several road sections. From West Jakarta, Central Jakarta, to South Jakarta, traffic density is still limited to vehicle queues of around 100 to 200 metres at several traffic light intersections. This condition differs from the previous Eid holiday period, when vehicle queues were almost invisible. The inspection started from Jalan Daan Mogot in Cengkareng, heading towards the Monas area, Bundaran HI, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, to Jalan Gatot Subroto in Kuningan. Two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles can still travel at a stable speed of around 50 to 60 kilometres per hour, especially on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman. The journey from West Jakarta to Bundaran HI can be completed in about 30 minutes. Meanwhile, the total distance of 24 kilometres traversing those three Jakarta areas can be completed in about 45 minutes. This duration is considerably faster compared to normal working days, which can take 90 minutes to nearly two hours during rush hour. However, the travel time is still slower compared to Kompas.com’s observation on Friday (20/3/2026), which only took 30 minutes. The increase in public activity is also evident in public transportation. Transjakarta bus stops, which were previously empty, are now starting to be filled with passenger queues.
