Jakarta — The DKI Jakarta provincial government has stipulated that teaching and learning activities at all schools in Jakarta must end no later than 2pm (Western Indonesian Time) throughout the month of Ramadan.

The Head of the DKI Jakarta Education Agency, Nahdiana, explained that the adjustment to school hours during Ramadan is in accordance with a joint circular issued by three ministries: the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen), the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), and the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag).

“We have also issued a circular stating that school hours will be adjusted. So the latest finishing time will be 2pm,” Nahdiana said at Jakarta City Hall on Thursday, 19 February 2026.

Nahdiana explained that the earlier dismissal time during Ramadan is intended to give students time to observe their religious duties during the holy month.

“Why is this being done? To provide space for independent learning with families and with the community at their respective places of worship,” she said.

Under Joint Circular (SEB) Number 5 of 2026, Number 2 of 2026, and Number 400.1/857/SJ, it is stipulated that from 18 to 21 February 2026, students will undertake independent learning within the family environment.

Students will then return to school from 23 February to 14 March 2026.

The circular also requests that regional governments and educational institutions adjust learning activities during Ramadan, including reducing the intensity of physical activities, conducting formative assessments, and giving special attention to children with special needs and students at risk of falling behind.

School principals are also asked to maintain the security of school facilities and infrastructure and to provide reporting channels for parents.

Parents and guardians are meanwhile encouraged to accompany their children in worship activities, literacy, numeracy, arts, sports, and character development.

Students will subsequently receive an Eid al-Fitr holiday from 16 March to 27 March 2026.
