Jakarta round-up: Bomb threat advisory, economic census clarification, and first day of school

Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung Wibowo has called on the public not to panic but to remain alert in response to a bomb threat at SDN Srengseng Sawah 15 Pagi state primary school in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, which coincided with the first day of the new school term. Pramono stressed that the threat should not instil fear in the community, while reminding all parties to heighten their vigilance.

The police revealed that the bomb threat originated from a private WhatsApp message received by a teacher during the flag ceremony for the school orientation period. Jagakarsa Police Chief Kompol Nurma Dewi confirmed the information was accurate, stating that a WhatsApp message had been sent to a teacher and an administrative staff member.

In a separate development, the Head of the National Statistics Agency (BPS), Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, asserted that the ongoing economic census is conducted solely for statistical purposes and is not related to taxation. The clarification was made in response to public speculation that the census was being used to identify potential taxpayers.

Meanwhile, fathers across East Jakarta accompanied their children to school on the first day of the 2026/2027 academic year in support of the ‘Fathers Take Children to School Movement’ (GAMAS). One resident of Pisangan Baru, Matraman, Rio Manik, 33, took time to escort his child to Tarakanita Junior High School in Rawamangun.

In a separate incident, a joint team evacuated 26 passengers from the motor vessel KM Sumber Rezeki after it suffered engine failure in the waters off Pulau Lancang, Kepulauan Seribu Regency, on Sunday afternoon. Agus Sunarwan, Head of the Fire and Rescue Section for South Kepulauan Seribu District, stated that upon receiving the report, a rescue boat and five personnel were immediately deployed to the location to carry out the evacuation.
