Jakarta Road Infrastructure Agency to Redesign Pac-Man Themed Zebra Cross in Tebet
JAKARTA - The Dinas Bina Marga of DKI Jakarta will redesign the zebra crossings featuring the Pac-Man game character on Jalan Soepomo, Tebet, heading towards Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta.
Head of the Data and Information Centre of Dinas Bina Marga DKI Jakarta, Siti Dinar Wenny, stated that the redesign will be carried out based on field conditions.
“If the location and conditions are deemed to meet the requirements, there is no possibility of accommodating or adjusting it as part of the official redesign,” Wenny explained to Kompas.com on Friday (3/4/2026).
Currently, there are four zebra crossings that have been repainted after being covered with black asphalt during road repairs on Jalan Dr. Prof. Saharjo.
These include the one in front of Sahid University and opposite Kinderfield School, in front of Jalan KH Ramli, and in front of Pop Hotel.
However, Wenny did not provide further details when asked about the decision to remove the Pac-Man zebra crossings.
In response to the painter’s desire to collaborate, Wenny said the agency is open as long as the application complies with applicable standards and procedures.
“Dinas Bina Marga is open to collaboration with the community in efforts to improve road user safety, as long as it still refers to regulations and technical studies from relevant agencies,” Wenny stated.
More than just white blocks on black asphalt, the zebra crossings here also feature illustrations of the Pac-Man game character.
The initiator of the zebra crossing painting, Ijoel, said the crossings were created as a critique of the government.
Because the zebra crossings at the location had not been repainted for nearly a year after being covered.
“If we as residents use white paint, it seems ordinary. So this is more like a jab at the government. Like, we can do it ourselves, why can’t the government,” Ijoel told Kompas.com on Sunday (29/3/2026).
Head of the South Jakarta Road Infrastructure Sub-Agency, Rifki Rismal, said the zebra crossings will be removed and replaced with standard zebra crossings in accordance with existing standards.
