Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has clarified that the planned ‘Gembok Cinta’ (Love Lock) bridge in the Rasuna Said area, South Jakarta, will be built over the Cideng River directly in front of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) building, not on an existing pedestrian overpass (JPO). Local residents have voiced their approval of the chosen site.

Kinan, a 25-year-old resident, stated that placing the bridge over the river is a better solution than using a JPO, which would disrupt commuters heading to TransJakarta bus stops or the LRT station. ‘I think it’s a good idea. It will be like the ones abroad,’ she said, adding that she hopes the river will be cleaned up and remain odour-free once the bridge is built.

Another resident, 29-year-old Fadlan, echoed this sentiment, agreeing that the river location is correct to avoid disturbing public transport users. He suggested the bridge should be made wide and aesthetically pleasing. Fadlan also emphasised the importance of maintaining the river’s cleanliness and urged future visitors to keep the area tidy. He mentioned he would consider placing a lock there himself if the spot becomes popular.

Governor Pramono Anung previously explained that the bridge connects Jalan HR Rasuna Said to Jalan Kuningan Persada and is intended to serve as a space for youth expression. He stressed that the concept was deliberately not placed on a pedestrian overpass to avoid hindering daily foot traffic.
