Jakarta Residents Enthusiastic About Vehicle Tax Amnesty Programme
The West Jakarta Joint One-Roof Integrated Service (Samsat) office was crowded with residents seeking to utilise the tax amnesty programme, which involves the removal of administrative fines for Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB). On Thursday, 4 June 2026, taxpayers filled the Samsat waiting rooms.
Many residents were seen queuing in long lines in front of special counters. Crowds were also visible in the e-form area, where citizens were busy entering data, as well as in the Information and Complaint Service Room, which was packed with people consulting with officers. This high level of enthusiasm was triggered by the Jakarta Provincial Government’s policy to waive vehicle tax penalties.
One resident utilising the programme, Karim (44), expressed his gratitude for being freed from the tax fines on his Toyota Calya, which had been overdue for three years. He noted that he only learned about the amnesty through his son, who saw an announcement on social media. Without hesitation, he brought his wife to the Samsat office to settle their tax obligations, saving approximately Rp 1.5 million in fines.
Similarly, Abdul Syukur (47), a resident of Kemanggisan, Palmerah, decided to settle his car tax which had been overdue for two years due to financial constraints. He discovered the programme via a banner in front of the Samsat building. He reported that the process was smooth and the fines, amounting to roughly Rp 1.2 million, were automatically cleared in the system.
Carto, Head of the Motor Vehicle Tax Collection Service Unit (UPP PKB) of the West Jakarta Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda), explained that the amnesty programme is effective from 1 June to 31 August 2026. The policy serves as a stimulus to celebrate the 499th anniversary of Jakarta and the 81st Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia. He assured that the process is not burdened by complex bureaucracy and is guaranteed to be free from illegal levies, as the system automatically zeroes out the fines upon payment.
Beyond Jakarta, the Lampung Provincial Government has also implemented a Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB) and Motor Vehicle Ownership Transfer Fee (BBNKB) relief programme, effective from 2 June to 31 August 2026. Similarly, the South Sulawesi Provincial Government is offering a 100 per cent waiver on tax fines and a reduction of the principal tax by up to 50 per cent for vehicles with due dates in 2025 and earlier, running from 1 May to 30 June 2026.
