Jakarta Residents Enjoy Long Weekend in Various Ways
Jakarta residents are spending the long weekend at various locations. Some are visiting Tebet Eco Park and Taman Margasatwa Ragunan.
One of the locations where Jakarta residents are spending their holidays is Tebet Eco Park. The most crowded spot is the children’s playground located in the southern part of Tebet Eco Park. The children are doing various activities, from playing on the slides to playing ball.
One of them is Ali (46), a visitor from Cawang, East Jakarta. Ali said that his children are happy to be able to play ball at Tebet Eco Park.
“It’s fun, it’s great. The kids are really happy to play. They’re trying all the children’s games, playing ball, eating here,” said Ali when met at Tebet Eco Park, Friday (15/5/2026).
Ali said that he and his children were bored of spending their holidays at home. For that reason, he brought his wife, two children, and one nephew to a park like Tebet Eco Park.
“The kids are happy. Because they’re bored of being at home all the time, so they’re spending their holidays in places like this, in the park,” he said.
Even though the weather in the Tebet area is hot, Ali said that the many trees in Tebet Eco Park make it not too hot.
“It’s very hot today. But here it’s quite good because there are a lot of trees. It’s refreshing,” he said.
Besides Ali, there is also Liza (37), who comes from Cipinang, East Jakarta, who brought her family to spend the long weekend at Tebet Eco Park. She said that Tebet Eco Park, which is free, made her decide to go to the location.
“It’s close to home, and it’s also free, and the place is also spacious. That’s what I considered,” said Liza.
Liza said that her child asked her to go to Tebet Eco Park. Besides her child, she said that her mother also wanted to spend the holiday at Tebet Eco Park.
“The second child asked to come here, and so did Mom, my mother,” she said.
Liza said that her child has done many activities at the location. Her children ran around and played games at Tebet Eco Park.
“Earlier, they played there, what, on the swings, then on the seesaw, earlier there was a trampoline, playing on the slides, running around, they’re tired,” she said.
Blok M Attracts Visitors
The Blok M area, South Jakarta, is also crowded with visitors. Many residents choose the Blok M area because they are confused about choosing a place to spend the long weekend.
A number of areas in Blok M, especially those selling culinary delights, are crowded with visitors. The visitors who come are mostly young people who come in groups with their friends.
One of the spots that many visitors flock to is the food court area in front of Blok M Square. In addition, many visitors can be seen taking pictures in the Blok M area.
One of the visitors, Rizki (24), chose to come to Blok M because he was confused about choosing another destination to spend the long weekend. Moreover, Blok M was chosen because it is easily accessible by public transportation.
“Because, I don’t know where else to go, so I chose to come here (Blok M). I made an appointment with my friends, and we met here,” said Rizki.
Departing alone from the Jagakarsa area, South Jakarta, Rizki made an appointment with four of his friends to spend the afternoon in Blok M. He also wants to try the food that is available in Blok M.
“Earlier, I just had time to buy coffee. Now I want to try to find snacks,” he said.
Aan (24) did the same, choosing Blok M because he hadn’t thought of visiting another place for the holiday today. The man from Manggarai finally chose Blok M and plans to hunt for culinary delights.
“In the afternoon, I wanted to go out, since it’s a holiday. I was confused about where to go, so I just went to Blok M. I made an appointment with my friends earlier, and we left together on a motorbike,” said Aan.
Aan said that the condition of Blok M today is quite crowded. However, he still enjoys spending his holiday time in Blok M.
“It’s crowded, but it’s okay. Earlier, I even had to queue to buy a cup of coffee, but it wasn’t long,” he said.
Visiting Ragunan to See Capybaras
The capybaras at Taman Margasatwa Ragunan are crowded with visitors during the long weekend after the viral call of ‘Mas Bro’ for the animal. Ragunan also said that there are enough capybaras for visitors to see.
The Head of Public Relations of Taman Margasatwa Ragunan, Wahyudi Bambang, said that initially, capybaras did not receive much attention from visitors. However, when it went viral, suddenly many visitors asked about the location of the capybara enclosure.
“Yes, it went viral because of that, so many people asked, ‘Where is Mas Bro?’. We were confused, ‘What is Mas Bro?’. We then found out that ‘Mas Bro’ is a capybara,” said Bambang when met at Ragunan, South Jakarta, Friday (15/5).
Bambang said that currently, there are about 20 capybaras being kept at Ragunan. He even said that the success of breeding capybaras at Ragunan is better than other zoos.
“Besides the virality, it is also true that at Ragunan, the population is quite large, and the success of births is also high. Because in some other zoos, it is said that this animal is quite difficult to breed,” he explained.
He explained that the location and climate greatly influence the success of breeding capybaras. According to him, the conditions at Ragunan are similar to the capybaras’ natural habitat.
“Because capybaras actually have their natural habitat in the Amazon with quite high and humid rainfall. If it is too dry, capybaras cannot survive. If it is too humid, they also cannot survive. Maybe the climate at Ragunan is very suitable for their natural habitat, so the success rate of breeding is quite high,” he said.
“That’s why for Ragunan, it is a good asset because we can exchange with other zoos to get new animal collections,” he added.
Bambang added that currently, there are three capybara enclosures at Ragunan. With that, visitors can see capybaras more freely because they have many location choices.
“There is one near the anoa, then in the middle near the elephants. Then there is another one near the small mammals, near the lion enclosure,” he said.
