Jakarta Residents Enjoy Free Ciliwung River Adventure, Gain Environmental Insight
The Water Resources Department (SDA) of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, together with relevant stakeholders, organised a Ciliwung River Adventure activity that residents could join free of charge. Residents were pleased to be able to try the activity. “It was fun, quite exciting to go along the Ciliwung. An interesting experience,” said a resident, Tiara (25), at the Creative Zone: Riverview by JXB, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (27/6/2026). Tiara said this was her first experience exploring the Ciliwung. She mentioned that the boat’s propeller had stalled because it got caught in rubbish. “The engine died earlier, the boat’s propeller got caught in rubbish. It died twice, caught on plastic waste and there was also a blanket earlier,” she said. Another resident, Amel (27), expressed similar sentiments. She deliberately chose to join the activity to fill her weekend. “It was quite exciting, a way to have a useful weekend activity. Rather than just hanging out, this broadens our knowledge,” she said. Amel praised the Ciliwung River Adventure activity. She said the activity is beneficial for the community. “It’s good, because we can see the Ciliwung’s rubbish directly, and also the waste mapping. There was also a brief explanation about the history of the Ciliwung, so it broadens our knowledge by seeing it directly on the spot,” she said.
