Jakarta Regional Parliament Supports Local Entrepreneurs as Economic Drivers
Support from the Jakarta Regional Parliament for strengthening the MSME sector represents an important step in driving regional economic growth. Micro, small and medium enterprises play a strategic role in creating employment, increasing consumer purchasing power, and strengthening local economic resilience.
Through various policies and oversight functions, the Regional Parliament is encouraging the Jakarta Provincial Government to expand its MSME Empowerment Programme. This includes simplified licensing procedures, improved access to capital, entrepreneurship training, expanded market access, and leveraging digital platforms.
With synergy between the regional government, business operators, and the community, the Jakarta Regional Parliament is optimistic that the MSME sector can serve as a motor for Jakarta’s recovery and more inclusive and sustainable economic growth. Such support strengthens MSMEs’ position as the backbone of the city’s economy whilst improving the welfare of Jakarta residents.
Wibi Andrino, Deputy Chair of the Jakarta Regional Parliament, stated that the role of local entrepreneurs is crucial as the backbone of Jakarta’s economy, expanding employment opportunities for residents. “The role of local entrepreneurs can scale up. They can help drive the economic wheel in Jakarta,” Wibi said whilst attending the 2026 Second Leadership Meeting of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) Jakarta on Monday, 9 March 2026.
Currently, local business operators from various sectors support Jakarta’s economic structure, ranging from small businesses to other business sectors. “We fully understand that in the context of Jakarta’s economy, the backbone is local entrepreneurs,” said Wibi.
Strengthening the business sector is also important in addressing unemployment challenges. “How employment opportunities become something very important,” he added.
Through the KADIN Leadership Forum, local entrepreneurs can continue to develop and contribute more significantly to creating job opportunities for residents. “Our great hope is that these local entrepreneurs are also able to open many employment sectors for people in Jakarta,” said Wibi.
Deputy Chair of the Jakarta Regional Parliament Rany Mauliani emphasised that the Regional Parliament plays an important role in overseeing collaboration between the business world and the regional government. “The Regional Parliament’s duty and function is certainly to oversee, approve, collaborate, and mediate between KADIN Jakarta and the Jakarta Provincial Government,” said Rany.
She also appreciated various training programmes by KADIN Jakarta that help address unemployment. Such efforts represent a positive step in increasing the capacity of people without employment. “Training becomes the target for solving unemployment in Jakarta,” said Rany.
Through collaboration between the business world, regional government, and the Regional Parliament, Jakarta’s economy can continue to grow and have a positive impact on improving the welfare of residents.
