Jakarta Regional Council Urges Development Programmes to Prioritise Resident Needs
Discussions between Commission D of the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) and the executive branch have focused on programmes that directly impact the community. Commission D is ensuring that these essential needs are incorporated into the 2027 Jakarta Regional Government Work Plan (RKPD).
“From the need for cemetery land and waste management to the redevelopment of residential areas and proposals for renovating the homes of underprivileged citizens,” stated Yuke in a written statement on Friday (5/6/2026).
She noted that programme synchronisation is vital to ensure regional development plans align with actual field requirements. One primary focus is waste management.
“Another programme is the complete redevelopment of slum areas. To date, the number of slum-affected community units (RW) has continued to decrease,” she added.
Consequently, Commission D is urging the Jakarta Provincial Government to maintain programme consistency to further improve the quality of residential environments.
Similarly, regarding the Home Renovation Programme, Commission D is looking into ways to accommodate community requests, even though such programmes cannot be funded directly through the Regional Budget (APBD).
“However, there are opportunities for assistance through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) schemes and Baznas (National Board of Zakat). This is because many residents desire decent and functional housing,” she explained.
She concluded that the determination of priority programmes must align with community needs, while considering budget adjustments or reductions. “Therefore, the preparation of the 2027 RKPD must remain in accordance with regional planning documents, such as the RPJMD and RPJPD, as well as the Governor’s priority programmes and community aspirations gathered through council members’ recess periods.”
