Jakarta Records Highest Number of Child Rights Violation Complaints

The Indonesian Commission for Child Protection (KPAI) has announced that Jakarta is one of the five provinces in Indonesia with the highest number of reported child rights violations. From January to April 2026, KPAI received 113 complaints regarding child violations specifically within the Jakarta region.

KPAI member Dian Sasmita stated in a report on child protection monitoring that cases of violence against children are prevalent in environments with prolonged interaction, such as homes and schools. She further noted that digital environments have also become spaces where children are highly vulnerable to becoming victims of violence. Sasmita emphasised that no single location can 100 per cent guarantee children’s safety from violence, reminding all parties that protecting children from all forms of abuse is a collective responsibility.

KPAI Chairman Aris Adi Leksono noted that while there were 300 formal complaints, the actual number of cases exceeds 300, as a single complaint can reveal multiple instances of rights violations or special protection breaches. Out of 426 identified cases, 403 received psycho-educational services from KPAI through various monitoring methods, including case conferences, field visits, and mediation.

Additionally, 14 cases were identified through social media virality rather than direct complaints, while nine cases originated from direct public reports. Aris reaffirmed that child protection is a shared responsibility to ensure every Indonesian child can grow and develop optimally.
